Periodontics
At Flintridge Dental Studio, our staff is experienced in Periodontics, which is the treatment and prevention of gum disease. We are proud to offer a patients a variety of procedures.
Gum Graft Surgery: If you have receding gums, your tooth’s roots are exposed making them appear longer than normal. A gum graft surgery replaces the missing gum tissue to even out your gum line. The treatment helps in giving the patient a smile that appears more natural and, at the same time, protect against sensitivity and infection.
Gum Surgery: At Flintridge Dental Studio, our staff is experienced in various types of gum surgery. One common procedure is called gingival flap surgery. This includes folding your gums back to form a flap in order to reach the infected tissue below the gum.
Scaling and root planing; This procedure is one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease. It allows the hygienist to clean between the teeth and gums down to the tooth’s root. The hygienist will numb your gums, and the roots of your teeth then use an ultrasonic tool for the planing and scaling. Antibiotic fibers are available to be placed into the pockets between your gums and teeth, which can help speed up the healing and prevent infection.
Dental Crown Lengthening: A “gummy smile” is a condition where your teeth are covered by an excess of gum tissue. Crown lengthening is a periodontal surgery where excess gum tissue is eliminated and bone tissue is restructured to give your smile a more pleasing, natural appearance.
Root surface debridement is more than just the treatment of the root’s surface. It includes the pocket wall, pocket space, the underlying tissue and the resistant response of the patient. The emphasis of this procedure is to control any bacterial infection.
Bone Grafting is needed when the jawbone weakens because missing teeth have not been replaced. In these cases, the jawbone is not able to hold a dental implant in place. Bone grafting not only replaces the bone that is missing, but provides the opportunity to promote new bone growth in the jaw. Once the new bone has fused onto the jawbone, it affords the doctor the opportunity to restore the functionality and aesthetic appearance of your teeth with implants.
